Haven Life was founded with a mission to take a time-consuming, confusing process and transform it into one that’s actually simple. Yes, we’re talking about buying term life insurance.
If you’ve landed on this page, it’s likely that you have already taken the first step of applying for life insurance. Bravo — it’s a smart move for anyone who wants to leave a financial legacy, and we’re happy to say, you only have a bit further to go. Three steps for those who are keeping score at home.
Before we continue, it’s worth stating that just because you have to take a medical exam, it doesn’t mean you’re in poor health or won’t get a great price. Rather, it means we need a little more information about you to give you an accurate term life insurance rate. In fact, the majority of Haven Term applicants who have to take a medical exam end up getting the most affordable price available for their health and age. So, you’re in good company.
Here’s what you can expect next:
1. eSign and confirm your information
Signing your application electronically is not a commitment to buy coverage. It simply allows us to schedule your medical exam. All you are doing is verifying that the information you’ve given us on the application is correct.
You have up to seven days to electronically sign your application. However, if you don’t sign in seven days, you’ll have to resubmit your application. Don’t worry —your existing application will mostly pre-fill your answers in the new application when you reapply, so you won’t need to start from scratch.) In other words, there’s no harm in signing.
2. Complete a life insurance medical exam
The purpose of the life insurance medical exam is to help the insurer determine the appropriate price for your policy. While it’s one of the only offline aspects of Haven Life’s application experience, we still take every effort we can to make the process streamlined and painless.
The medical exam itself takes about 20-30 minutes. You can schedule your appointment online or over the phone.
The examiner can meet you at home, your place of business or an exam office. Pick a place for the exam where you’ll be most comfortable giving a blood and urine sample. We find that most Haven Life customers choose to have the paramed examiner come to their homes.
Here’s what you can expect the paramed to do in the exam:
- Review your family’s medical history
- Measure your blood pressure, height, and weight
- Collect blood and urine samples
- Verify the health and lifestyle responses you make on your application
Pro tip: consider booking a morning appointment since fasting before the exam is recommended. For more tips on preparing for the medical exam, refer to this helpful guide.
3. Review your final offer
Generally, lab results become available within a week of your exam. After we receive the information, our innovative technology reviews the results in real time to get your final rate. If we need further information, an underwriter will reach out with a few specific questions about your life insurance application. In rare cases, with a complicated medical or prescription history, medical records may be collected.
Once you receive your life insurance rate, you can choose to accept or decline the offer. We hope that the rate and the ease of the experience will win you over, but there is no pressure to purchase if you’re not happy with the price.
Although unlikely, you could be declined for coverage based on the results of your medical exam or a few other factors. If that is the case, don’t worry, you may still have plenty of options for coverage available.
Enjoy your peace of mind (and some great added benefits)
When you buy life insurance, you’re entering into a long-term relationship that can, depending on the term length you choose, last several 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. Historically, the extent of this relationship has been a monthly bill for years on end. In exchange, you get coverage for your family and peace of mind for you.
And, while that’s OK because life insurance is absolutely worth having, at Haven Life, we think being a life insurance policyholder can be far more rewarding, which is why we offer Haven Life Plus.
Haven Life Plus is a no-cost rider on the Haven Term policy that provides customers with a suite of services that helps them live healthier, fuller and more protected lives. In eligible states, a Haven Term policyholder can take advantage of the following services, which are included in the cost of the policy:
- A digital solution for creating a legal will for you or you and your partner at no charge through Trust & Will (a $129 value). The service also includes a health care power of attorney and directives.
- A secure online safe deposit box for storing, managing and sharing your family’s important documents at no cost through LifeSite (normally $80 per year).
- A 15 percent discount voucher for family health services at MinuteClinic, inside CVS Pharmacy and Target stores.
It’s not only easier life insurance, it’s an easier life.
